West Lakes Wrap Up – CityServe 2014

Posted by:

Wow what an awesome day we had last Saturday as 83 volunteers knocked over 5 Cityserve projects in the West Lakes region. Over 900 square meters of asphalt was thoroughly cleaned at Toronto High School by a team of five with water blasters proudly donated by Coates Hire. At the same time a team of 12 plus two from Toronto Baseball re-painted a toilet facility at Waterboard Oval in Blackalls Park, another 13 barrowed, mulched and raked gardens on Rathmines Foreshore and 20 teamed up with staff to re-oil the decks and other outdoor timber at Peter Pan Pre-School in Wangi Wangi.

Finally, at Lyall Peacock Oval, the home of the Scorpions Footy Club and Stags Soccer team, we did a massive dressing shed makeover involving 31 people that transformed a dark, dingy space into a light and clean fresh slate ready for both clubs to refurbish for the year ahead.

Club secretary Steve Woodbridge said “This would never have been done had it not been for Cityserve” and “I’ve never seen a bunch of young people so happy to paint anything, let alone a toilet facility in a footy club house”.

All in all we estimate that over 325 hours were donated to the local community on Saturday Oct 11 and we’re proud to say that the City has been Served. We noticed a renewed sense of pride and unity in church on Sundaymorning. We’ve got to keep doing this!
