Affectionately known as ‘The Bunker’ Newcastle SLSC is now a completed CityServe Project thanks to those that gave their time to make it happen.
This project was led by Howard Mole who’s both a tireless worker for the Salvation Army and member of Life Church in Newcastle. This project got off to a roaring start, beginning on Friday 18th October there was a convergence on the regions Newcastle Permanent Managers as well as other community and church volunteers including ‘Stan’ who was instrumental in helping deliver Dixon Park SLSC. Saturday saw over 90 volunteers throughout the day from the community including Life Church, Hillsong Newcastle, Newcastle SLSC, MP Tim Owen, Cr Sharon Waterhouse and those that registered online to get involved.
It was an ambitious assignment given the size of the club, it’s big! As we have seen over a number of weekends the work that was planned got done plus some. The entire club including the lifeguard watchtower received a paint including a colour change, tables, chair, shade structure and change room also got a paint.
Newcastle SLSC President, Brad Kinnard and member Dick Spinx expressed their delight in the new colour change as well and surprise in the work getting does so quick. Again this is the testimony of what many working together can do! The generosity of the community continues to flow with sponsor’s Scafflink, ATF Fencing, Instant Access, Dulux, Water for a Cause, Singo’s Meats, Bakers Delight Market Town and Growers Best Fruit Market. With detailed project management again by Jason Cleare and the team from NCC in the lead up and coordinating the enormous amount of paint supplies.
Thanks to everyone involved the Newcastle SLSC CityServe project went exceptionally well!
With 5 SLSC’s now completed over the last 4 weekends our sites are set on the final club, Merewether! Work on this begins Friday 25th October (this week) continuing throughout the Saturday, volunteers are welcome to register here.
Looking forward to seeing you there, serving together
